Press Release - August 2009 When Leicestershire-based flooring and access solutions provider, PRIMA was called to supply their award-winning PRIMA Terra-Tech instant roadway to a local junior school little did they know a piece of history would be uncovered. Leicester City Council’s City Highways team was working at Inglehurst Junior School on Sandhurst Road to reconstruct a retaining wall to ensure the safety of schoolchildren during playtime. PRIMA was contracted to supply PRIMA Terra-Tech instant roadway to protect the entrance way to the site and provide access for vehicles and plant equipment. During site investigations, the design team discovered the cause of the unstable retaining wall- a World War II air raid shelter beneath the existing playground! Unfortunately the shelter did not reveal any further secrets from the War and so was made safe so construction work could be completed. Sam Rowe, project manager for PRIMA added: “Ensuring on site safety and access is usually all in a day’s work for PRIMA, with the Inglehurst Junior School project being a typical example of this, so when we were told about the air raid shelter it was a complete surprise! I’ve heard of some unusual discoveries on construction sites but this one certainly tops the list!” As part of PRIMA’s CSR policy, when either of the systems is hired, the company offers a quantity of PRIMA Gridmat portable flooring free of charge to facilitate disabled access for specific areas such as toilets.
